A Mystery Knit Along, often shortened to MKAL, is a knitting event where the final design remains a secret when you cast on. 

You will know what type of garment you are making and receive all the information you need about yarn, gauge, sizing and materials before we begin.

The design is then revealed gradually as we knit.

We are knitting a new outdoorsy sweater. Everything else is part of the mystery.

The mystery begins on January 1, 2027, when the first chapter is released.

Entirely online. You can join us from anywhere in the world. Knitters from around the world will cast on together on January 1 and follow the mystery as each new chapter is released.

Purchase your Winter Mystery entry through Sisu Knitwear. Once you have purchased your entry, you are officially part of the mystery.

No. You are welcome to purchase the pattern entry only and use your own yarn from your stash.

The pattern is digital and will be released in four chapters throughout the Mystery Knit Along.

You will receive information about how to access each chapter after purchasing your entry. It will be sent to you by email.

The first chapter will be released on January 1, 2027. The remaining chapters will be released throughout January.

The Winter Mystery pattern will be available in English and Norwegian.

Yes. You can join after January 1 and simply knit at your own pace. Any chapters that have already been released will be available to you.

You can choose between two yarn qualities:

Léttlopi for a lighter version of the sweater.

Álafoss Lopi for a thicker version of the sweater.

Both versions create the same mystery design, adapted specifically for the different yarn weights and gauges.

There is one important difference.

The Léttlopi version is worked top down.
The Álafoss Lopi version is worked bottom up.

Yes. You are welcome to use another yarn that gives you the correct gauge.

Because yarn behaves differently depending on fibre, structure and weight, we strongly recommend knitting a gauge swatch before beginning.

Official Sisu Winter Mystery knitting kits will be available directly from Sisu Knitwear.

You can also purchase Léttlopi and Álafoss Lopi individually from yarn retailers or use a suitable alternative yarn.

We have created a small collection of carefully curated Winter Mystery colourways specifically for the design.

You can choose one of our colourways or create your own combination.

The amount of yarn required depends on your size and whether you choose Léttlopi or Álafoss Lopi.

Full yarn requirements for every size will be available before the Mystery Knit Along begins.

Your knitting kit contains the yarn required for your chosen size and colourway.

The first 100 yarn kits will also include something very special from the North.

The sweater requires that you know how to cast on, knit, purl, increase or decrease stitches and one more skill that wouldn't be revealed before we cast on. Don't worry, as we knit videoes will be uploaded in our groups so everyone can follow along.

Needle sizes and all other required materials will be listed before the Mystery Knit Along begins.

You will receive finished garment measurements and recommended ease before casting on, allowing you to choose your size before the mystery begins.

No. That is part of the mystery.

You will receive all the practical information you need to choose your yarn, colours and size, but the finished design will remain secret.

The first 100 knitters to purchase an official Sisu Winter Mystery knitting kit will receive a sealed and signed Letter from the North, created especially for our very first Winter Mystery.

Inside your package you will also find an exclusive golden brass stitch marker shaped like reindeer antlers.

No. Only 100 will be made, and they will only be available with the first 100 Winter Mystery knitting kits. Once they are gone, they are gone.

We will share Winter Mystery updates and community content through dedicated groups for the Mystery Knit Along.
